Newton's baseball experiments better than Lindnor's

Bryor Lindner throws at Fairfield during the Keokuk Chiefs 4-3 win over the Trojans to advance in the Class 3A postseason in 2022. Thursday Lindnor gave up just three hits in a 4-1 loss to Mount Pleasant at Joyce Park.

Isaac Newton is famous for solving the laws of gravity.

Mount Pleasant pitcher Ben Newton presented a puzzle the Keokuk High School baseball team could not solve. His fellow scientist on the pitcher's mound, Keokuk's Bryor Lindner, presented his own research that confused the Panthers, except for one inning in the baseball laboratory.

In a Southeast Conference game at Joyce Park Thursday, the Panthers' algorithms produced a breakthrough in the fifth inning for a 4-1 win over the Chiefs.

Keokuk's experiment at reaching home plate without a hit happened in the second inning.

Brendan Worster walked, advanced on a hit batter, a walk and scored on a wild pitch.

The extent of Keokuk's experiments at earning a hit?

Blake Chase had a third-inning double.

Jacob Lantz had a fifth-inning single.

Newton baffled Chiefs hitters with the motion of his pitches over the course of six and a third innings with seven strikeouts, three walks and two hits.

Lindner conducted his own research over his six and a third innings on the mound.

Lindnor's initial lab work conclusions resulted in a Panthers' hit in the second inning and a walk in the fourth inning.

Lindner tested theories to find out that free bases to the bottom of the opponents' batting order can result in runs scored.

The Panthers fifth-inning laboratory experiments decided the game.

A one-out walk was followed by an error, allowing the No. 9 batter on base. A walk, a single, a ground out and a double were followed by an error, a passed ball and a wild pitch mixed in to the baseball test tube.

A flyout ended the inning but four runs had scored.

Eight times Chiefs struck out.

The Panthers didn't commit any errors. The Chiefs had three.

Lindnor got the first two outs of the sixth inning before reaching his pitch count limit.

Lindnor was relieved by Brenton Hoard, who threw the final four outs.

The Chiefs are 0-6 and 2-10 overall. They host Fort Madison Monday at Joyce Park.
